I am currently looking for someone to help out with this blog. I didn't realize the scope that this blog would effect. Hits from countries in political strife and the like, people looking for a way to communicate outside of government control. If you would like to help please send me an email George dot Endrulat at Gmail dot Com.

[REQUEST] How to properly configure SIP - CyanogenMod Forum

[REQUEST] How to properly configure SIP - CyanogenMod Forum

Use sipdroid to automatically set you up an account at pbxes.com. It will take care of all the configuration for you, and as a bonus if you have a Google Voice number, it will optionally hook into your GV account so you can make SIP calls using your GV number.

So that means any calls you make SIP-to-SIP are free.

Any calls that you make SIP-POTS (POTS = Plain Old Telephone System) are free.

Any calls that you receive POTS-SIP are FREE.

(Of course that assumes you have an unlimited data plan or wifi access.)

I HIGHLY recommend getting a pbxes.com SIP account and GV number if you haven't got one already.

With that having been said, there is an echo problem when making SIP calls in that if your handset volume is too high, the other party can hear an echo of themselves after a 2-second delay. It is quite irritating, but just don't boost your handset up to max volume or use a headset.

Once you use sipdroid to automagically configure your account, you can use any SIP client you like. I personally prefer CSipSimple, it has the most features, is the most configurable, and is open-source.

EDIT: Or, once you used sipdroid to configure your account, you can feed your credentials into the built-in CM SIP client. I forgot why I'm not using that myself - I know there was a reason. Might've been echo- or missed-incoming-calls-related. Try it for yourself and see how it works.
