“Tropos Networks possesses a clear vision on how to build complex and mission critical smart grid communications networks built upon years of experience in the wireless communications market,” said Farah Saeed, analyst for Frost & Sullivan. “Tropos GridCom™ network architecture offers a simple and secure approach for solving challenges associated with communication networks and smart grid implementation. This value proposition clearly resonates with utilities in the midst of planning and implementing smart grid networks and is therefore a major contributing factor to Tropos Networks’ success in the smart grid market.”
Frost & Sullivan conducted an independent analysis of the North American Smart Grid market before selecting Tropos for this award. As part of that analysis, key performance drivers for Tropos were identified:
1) Expertise in Solving Complex AMI Backhaul and Distribution Automation Communication Network Matters – Tropos’ GridCom wireless network architecture, is based on industry standards and delivers the high performance and reliability, low latency, strong security, manageability, and economics utilities require for aggregation of multiple smart grid applications (AMI backhaul, distribution automation, mobile workforce, and more) over a single economic communications foundation.
2) Robust Technology – Tropos enables utilities to blend wireless networking technologies, combining the high-capacity and resilience aspects of mesh networks with favorable wide-area coverage economics of point-to-multipoint. Together these technologies can be optimally combined to create an overall network architecture that is highly resilient, delivers high performance, and is economical to deploy and operate across urban, suburban, and rural areas. Tropos Control provides unified management and visibility across the wireless networks, aggregating and simplifying configuration-, performance-, and network fault management.
3) Successful Contracts with Field-Proven Technology – Tropos achieved a 100 percent conversation rate of pilot tests with utilities; smart grid customers include Avista, Burbank Water and Power, City of Duncan, Glendale Water and Power, and Silicon Valley Power.
4) Strategic Partnerships – Tropos established partnerships with smart grid ecosystem leaders including Itron, Elster, Honeywell, and ABB.
“We are very pleased to be recognized by Frost & Sullivan for this award as a company outperforming competitors,” said Tom Ayers, president and CEO of Tropos Networks. “We continue to experience significant demand for our products and on average are winning a contract from a new utility each month. Our technology is economical and clearly meets the challenging network requirements utilities have for the smart grid.”
